Writer's Block: Crepuscular Drama
I didn't read the series, so I don't really care one way or the other. Hopefully, for the sake of the fans, the movie was done well. | | Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 | | 12:06 am |
Scott Matthews is a teacher.
I am in kind of a weird mood and decided to look up my high scool alumni information. I added my name and email address to the directory and then took a look at the faculty to see what had happened to my favorite teachers. I got such a surprise! I used to be friends with a really smart and nerdy drama guy and he is a teacher now. He has been teaching there for 8 years. Why this has thrown me, I am not sure. I remember doing his makeup for South Pacific and complaining about our English teacher and now people call him Mr. Matthews. On a day when I got hit on by a very precocious 17-year old boy, this makes me feel weird. Old. Like my life is in neutral and has been for a long time. It makes me wonder what I want. It also makes me laugh. I am almost tempted to send him an email just to say, "haha, you're a teacher". Bellydancing anyone?
I am looking to take a belly dance class maybe once a week or every two weeks. Have you ever taken one here in Las Vegas? Where? Did you like it? How much did it cost? | | Friday, October 17th, 2008 | | 7:19 pm |
Wow, really?
I went to Costco at lunchtime today to pick up my glasses. My work friends came with me and we ate lunch there. An interesting thing happened. It was really crowded and we ended up sitting next to a very gregarious older woman. She told us that the group of people sitting on her other side were visiting from South Africa. One of the South African guys asked her who she wanted to win the presidential election. And off she went. She wanted McCain to win, because she said Obama is a terrorist. She said that he won't salute the flag. She also warned us that if a black person was running the country, they would "run us like we ran them" I took an opportunity to give the South African guy a look and did the eye thing that is like shaking your head "no", like we don't all agree with her. I was left feeling disappointed that she has such racist ideas and also feeling naive that I was surprised to hear what she said. The South African guy told her that he is not sure he agrees with her. When she went on, he said that he does not think everyone feels the way she does. He handled it well, I think. | | Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 | | 8:21 pm |
Does anyone want this?
I bought this thing for my cat and he never uses it. It is a window "hammock". I don't need it and I am hoping to give it to someone. | | Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 | | 7:50 pm |
Atkins - day 1
I started doing the Atkins low carb diet today. So far, so good. This is what I have eaten: Breakfast 1/2 of an EAS Advantage low carb shake Lunch 2 double cheeseburgers from McDonald's (no buns) Snack 1 1/2 oz of colby jack cheese Dinner Sauteed vegetables smoked turkey sausage and lots of iced tea Tomorrow, I will go shopping for more stuff. It is nice that I am not hungry, like with some normal diets. I have been working since 8:45 a.m. and it is now 8:00 p.m. and I have lots more to do. | | Monday, September 15th, 2008 | | 9:02 pm |
It is 9:00 at night and I am working. I worked from 9 to 7:45 today, took a break to drive home, change and eat dinner, and now I am back at it. Hurricane Ike has taken a few people from my office and the rest of us are getting slammed. I volunteered to oversee some Ike claims that will be handled by independent adjusters, so I am not likely to have to go to Texas. I don't mind Texas, but things really are rough in the Houston area right now. The people from my office are in a moldy hotel that is dirty and is on a generator. There was a lizard in their hallway. Nothing new. Just work. I picked up some stuff from my house over the weekend. I got a Nevada driver's license. It is weird to me that they give it to you in person, instead of mailing it. I told you nothing was new. Seriously. Current Mood: busy | | Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008 | | 9:54 pm |
Cheers to me
For the past week and a half, I have been really worried about a test that I had to take for work. Today, I did two things that made me a little bit proud of me - 1) I passed my test and 2) I went to the gym. I am such a bum about the gym that I am celebrating the small victories. It was weird to just go home after this. In the old days, Ryan and I would have gone out to celebrate (the test, not the gym). :) | | Thursday, June 26th, 2008 | | 6:04 pm |
I am living alone and having a lot of time to think about things. It is weird to be the captain of the ship, so to speak. I get up in the morning when I need to for work, go to bed at night when I can't keep my eyes open, eat what and when I want, clean up after just me and my cat. I am not sure what I expected, but this has been really interesting. | | Sunday, June 8th, 2008 | | 7:56 pm |
A little news from me
In case I haven't mentioned it to any of you, I have found a great place, a little condo in Green Valley. It has a cute little gas fireplace, nice vaulted ceilings and really nice landscaping outside. It is also really close to my office! No more one hour commutes for me. There is also a little workout room and three swimming pools, one with a hot tub. I have been slowly buying things to make my place more comfortable. I got a new bed last weekend and today I picked up a floor lamp and an end table. I got the lamp and the end table for a really good price, so I am happy. When I have plates, I will have a little get together so I can see everyone I haven't seen in a while. Hopefully this will be before Scott leaves! It is hard when you are picky and cheap. Health update
I am posting from the waiting area at Steinberg Diagnostic in Green Valley. They are doing an upper GI series. So far, the doctor thinks my gastric band is too tight. I have wondered for a long time why they used the band they did, since it is one used typically for smaller patients. I am not sure what to do now. I think they will recommend removing my band and I don't want to. I don't want to gain the weight back. I still want to lose another 50 pounds. If I do have to have it removed, I want to get another one, but the correct size. Honestly, I think if they put in the wrong size, they need to redo it for me. I also think it should be at their cost. What do you think? | | Monday, April 28th, 2008 | | 9:33 pm |
How now brown cow?
Seriously, I could not think of a title today. I am just hanging out and eating some dinner. White cheddar pasta shells and some broccoli, if you are curious. If not, move along. It is late to be eating, but I worked late and then went to the gym, so it was bound to happen. I think I found an apartment. I was going to stop by on Saturday to apply, but instead of babysitting for a couple of hours, it was all the live-long day. It is ok, because it was for a good cause. Now Deeds has a car again! I can't help but wonder if my neighbors noticed that her car was reposessed from my driveway. If they did, there is nothing I can do about it. My neighbors have been cool so far and it has been almost 2 years here. The people next door with the kids could use some fine tuning, but they are not horrible. I have seen worse. The apartment is at Pecos and Bonanza. When I saw Bonanza, I said "yikes!", but it looks pretty nice and the people in the area did not seem to be too bad. Ask me sometime about the apartment at Eastern and Charleston. Hopefully this place does not have roaches. I can not stand bugs. Well, it is time to get ready to do it all again tomorrow. Cheers. | | Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 | | 9:49 pm |

You take the good, you take the bad
I took a test yesterday to certify for a promotion and I found out today that I passed! Very exciting! Basically, I will be doing the same thing, just more of it and possibly more complicated things. I will just be doing it for more money and the expectations will be higher. So, that was the good that my title refers to. The bad came first, actually. We had a "Town Hall" meeting today to talk about changes to our benefits. I always think it is a bad sign when they have to come up with a name to "brand" the program. Well, the name for our new plan is "Total Rewards" and they really, really tried to put the best possible spin on it. Unfortunately, I (and probably you) can add and subtract and can figure out that the company going to a 401k and matching 100% up to 6% is not as good as the company just contributing 15% to an acct. that you don't pay into at all. Am I right? Yeah, thought so. Anyhoo, there is nothing I can do about it. I was not vested anyway, so I am not really losing something that I did not have. I am just disappointed because the 15% was the best reason to work for my company. So, lately I have been really, really sick. Bad heartburn, throwing up, yada yada yada. So bad it wakes me up at night and keeps me up for hours. I tried Nexium and it made the heartburn go away but it made me throw up way, way more. I am trying a new medicine and I have so-so results. It does not make me throw up, which is nice. Note to Scott - thank you again for the Wheel of Time book last year. I read it last year and really like the series. I have rotated in other books, so I am not very far, but I love the books. Thank you for getting me started on those. | | Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 | | 7:43 pm |
In honor of Will - another scammer? You be the judge :dum dum dum:
As I have mentioned, I have been looking for a place of my own. Here is an email exchange between what I think may not be a 100% legit individual and me about a condo for rent. So for now, We are here in west Africa, our new house and also with the keys of the house, we try to look for an agent that we can give this documents before we left but could not see and we are as well as don't want our house to be used any how in our present that is why we took it along with us. I and my wife came over to West Africa for a missionary work, so i hope you will promise us to take very good care of the house. So get back to me on how you could take care of our house or perhaps experience you have in renting home. Hope you are okay with the price of US$500(3 months first payment) with hydro, heat laundry facilities, air condition and so on. Hi Mike, I noticed that you did not answer my questions. Could you go ahead and do that? Thanks. Also, are you asking for 3 months rent at move-in?

Hi, I am interested in your condo for rent. Can you tell me a little more about it, like the cross streets? When you say furnished, what does that include? Is there a bathtub? When will it be available? Please give me a call at (925) 639-5902 or email me back. Thanks, | | Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 | | 7:53 pm |

Wow, there are some sketchy neighborhoods in town
Yesterday, I spent the day looking for and at places to live. There is one place I found on Craigslist and it seemed like it could be ok. I met the "property manager" out there yesterday. He set off my creep-o-meter a bit because I asked if he was the owner and he said "sort of". Que? No comprende. I know he is not the owner because I looked up the property record before I went out there. I also scoped the neighborhood a bit. Wow. I have never really gotten out of my car at Eastern and Bonanza. Anyway, so I looked at the place and it was a sad little shack. If the bathroom had not been so gross, I would have been ok-ish with it. I don't know . . . . I am waiting to hear back about a condo on Torrey Pines and Charleston. | | Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 | | 5:49 pm |
Looking for a place to live
I am looking for a place to live. I would prefer to be on my own, so an apartment, a condo, a casita, an in-law unit or something similar would be good. I am on a very small budget because my regular housing expenses will continue :) I would also like to be able to keep my cat with me, if possible. I have been chacking Craigslist and the R-J's website. I would prefer to be in a decent (doesn't have to be fancy) neighborhood. Any part of town is theoretically ok. I already live as far from work as possible. If you happen to know of a place that is available, please let me know. |
